Why You Need CPAP Humidifier
CPAP Humidifier is used to decrease skin irritation and dryness and at the same time improve patient compliance. There are two main types of CPAP humidifiers - passive and heated. In another classification, CPAP humidifiers are divided to 'stand alone' and 'integrated'. An integrated CPAP humidifier is designed to connect directly to a CPAP machine without a length of tubing between the humidifier and the machine. Also, integrated CPAP humidifiers can only work with certain machines, so there must be compatibility between the two. On the other hand, a stand alone CPAP humidifier has to be connected to a CPAP machine by a tube and there are no compatibility issues involved, meaning that they can work with just about any CPAP machine.
There is a really good reason for using a CPAP humidifier. The CPAP machine sppupes a certain airflow which could potentially lead to less humidification delivered tot he patient because heater plate temperature remains the same. Leaks occur between the CPAP mask and the patient and as a result, patient wakes up to a dry, sore throat and nasal congestion. But with a CPAP humidifier, as the air flow increases, the humidifier increases the heater plate temperature automatically so the same level of humidity is delivered to the patient.
The REMstar® Heated Humidifier is an integrated type of CPAP humidifier. Its clear, two-piece water chamber is easy to fill and is dishwasher safe. The humidifier controls are on the CPAP unit, and the Humidifiers plugs directly into the REMstar® unit - so there is only one plug going into the wall. A lighted humidifier control button on the CPAP unit makes adjusting humidification levels easy. It works with a REMstart CPAP by plugging directly into it, so there is just one plug going from the CPAP to the wall outlet.
